Title: Amazon Service
Post by: Coast_Hopper on September 15, 2017, 09:33:05 PM
According to this week's notices Stagecoach are introducing a 21 service from South Bretton to Amazon, anyone know if it is subsidised by Amazon or whether Stagecoach feel there is a market

Not sure if its a temporary service until Christmas or longer

Would be good for locals. No easy way to get from Amazon from city centre.

I also notice that timetable changes have been in the notices for the B, 4,6 and 46. Been a long time since they have looked at the 6 and usage is fairly healthy. Although wondering how they will serve the new Hampton Gardens development.

Slightly off-topic, but Ensignbus have also introduced a few services to the Amazon site in Thurrock, so this suggests Amazon are trying to improve access to their sites, and possibly subsidising bus services across the UK.
Possibly an effort to get 'green' credentials , and to try and improve their reputation!

They have for the last couple of years, I suspect most don't get noticed as they run for shift times (so very early & very late) and aren't normally registered, plus often being worked by coach companies without destinations and they run from side streets away from the normal bus services.  There always appears to be a flurry of activity during the autumn, I think they often enhance the links they have & run extra services in the run up to Christmas as they bring in lots of temporary staff and they want to both make it easier for them to reach them and also recruit over a wider area so run the buses from some distance away.

The workers traveling to Amazon have to pay £4.00 each way, in cash, with the right money, no change given, according to a recent sign seen in the employment agency next to the Draper's Arms in Cowgate. So, if they get paid the minimum wage they effectively work more than the first hour for nothing.

2 services are operated. One from Wisbech the other from Spalding. Contracted out to National Express.

There is a Stagecoach Peterborough service as well, starts and returns to South Bretton

Timetable on stagecoach website, 4 buses a day starting on the 29th October until further notice, starting at South Bretton at 6:50, 12:05, 13:05 and 16:00

There should be, or shortly will be, one from Stamford as well.  National Express act as the contract manager, for the entire country as far as I can tell, with the operations contracted out to local operators in the area.

The 21 seems to have an interesting route. Plus with set down only at certain locations Assuming as Amazon are funding it then the non Amazon worker won’t be able to jump on enroute.

The timetable is showing on the stagecoach website as well as journey planner. But not on the traveleastmidlands site.

The journey planner does state "ask driver for fare price " which could indicate special fares. But if the 21 was for Amazon staff only why in the journey planner.

Its £3 which is more than the normal £2.60 fare on any other route
