Title: Route 702
Post by: chopper on November 14, 2017, 04:17:16 PM
Interesting to note that as from 27/12/17 Reading Buses will be taking over Greenline route 702 (Bracknell-London) from First Bus. Wait to see what coaches will be used and presumably they will come from the Reading dept.

Thanks for the information.

I had always planned to have a ride on that route.  Looks like I had better hurry up.

The last day of operation with First is Saturday 23rd.
Reading Buses have now announced that on Christmas Eve they will be operating a free service on the route with heritage vehicles.

Full post:

As you've probably heard, we'll be taking over the Bracknell/Windsor - London Green Line 702 after First withdraw on Saturday 23rd December.

As the first day will be a Christmas Eve Sunday there will likely be few usual fare paying customers around, therefore we are planning to operate a special 'free of charge' service with a variety of vintage Green Line vehicles from volunteer/preservationist owners and organisations. Whilst the service will operate free of charge (our formal route registration won't commence until Wednesday 27th December) donations to Reading Buses Charity of the Year, Red Balloon Learner Centres, will of course be welcomed!

The timetable for this event (on Sunday 24th December) is currently being finalised but journeys are expected to operate hourly from Victoria between 09:00-15:00 and from Windsor between 09:30-15:30 with a separate shuttle service between Windsor and Bracknell.

Please spread the word and tell any Green Line vehicle owners (ideally painted Green!) to get in touch with me if they'd like to run. The more the merrier. Reading Buses will be making a donation to vehicle owners/operators to cover fuel expenses.

Further information received from Reading BusesReading Buses has released some information about its plans for the takeover of the 702 from 27th December, including the vehicles which will be operating the service in the interim.

The article below was included in the "Bus News" bulletin of 2nd December - "Bus News" is compiled by Ian Rivett and is posted every Saturday to the LondonsTransport Yahoo Group page.

"Preparations are now underway for us taking over the Greenline 702 from December 27th. We've commenced driver recruitment, with a number of the existing drivers from First Slough applying to come and work for us.

"We're now busy interfacing with all the local authorities on route and are drawing up new timetable leaflets and info for our website.

"We're expanding onto this route as we see it as a way to generate profitable long-term growth; however we haven't purchased it. Therefore we don't have any historic data about the service. To start with we'll be launching on a "similar to First" basis but will be spending the few months watching, listening and learning to shape a complete relaunch of the route, including the timetable, from later in 2018.

"To start operations we'll be using a mix of existing Reading Buses vehicles that are fitted with high back coach style seating (such as 758) [ADL Enviro400 MMC - my note] and hired vehicles including three 52 leather coach seated Scania Omnilink tri-axle single deckers on long term hire from Stagecoach. We had recently purchased two second user Scania Caetano Levante coaches for training academy and rail replacement duties, however these will now be employed on the 702 too. For the launch we intend to paint a double decker in a modernised experimental version of the Green Line 702 livery. The other vehicles will be either plain or silver white with green branding. A number of demonstrator vehicles will be used in the first 4-6 weeks to evaluate the best type for the route longer term, especially with the need to meet London's Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ - Euro 6) from 2019."
