New routes in Bury N&P 2109
« on: September 09, 2011, 06:36:17 PM »
The latest copy of N&P posted by Suzy shows three new circular routes in Bury St Edmunds operated by Stephensons.  Any ideas on what they are?  It seems unlikely that Stephensons would compete head on with First as they work in their area in Essex and the potential retaliation would be too great.  Any thoughts or info?

The local rumours say that First is now to withdraw from Bury and that Stephensons will take on their town services albeit in their own recast format.

It is said that Stephensons are trying to get the Cotton Lane garage although another rumour says that a car dealership also wants the site. No doubt this is the Vauxhall dealer 'Drive' who operate on either side of the garage property already.

But there has not been any First service de-registrations...

Whilst I have not seen the dates on the First registrations myself, someone said that the registrations currently in place were only until October.

Whether this is so I do not know.

A Bury depot/garage or outstation could make sense for Stephensons - particularly with the Bury town services but also for they have lots of services to the north west of Bury.

First are leaving Bury, Mainly because the Depot has to be shut by the end of the year when the lease runs out (and they cant get it extended again)

Believe it will be leased to the Car Dealership temporary until plans for the site is constructed.

The dates for these routes starting, on VOSA, is 25/10 (2 weeks today). As of yet there is nothing on Traveline or Stephensons about these?

The timetables have been on Suffolk on Board for a while now: http://www.suffolkonboard.com/news/bus_service_news/passenger_transport_service_changes/october_bus_service_changes.

Details have now appeared on Stephensons' website: http://www.stephensonsofessex.com/pages/posts/breeze-177.php (and a brochure: http://www.stephensonsofessex.com/media/Misc/Breeze.pdf). The services are to be branded "Breeze" and operate from 24th October, with the first day free.
