Victoria Line 1967 Stock
« on: May 15, 2011, 06:54:43 PM »
Does anyone know when the last of these trains are to be withdrawn, as I hope to maybe snatch one last ride on them in the summer, if there are a few stragglers left. I'm sad that they will be gone this year, having grown up with them over the 12 years that I have travelled by Underground, with the Victoria being one of my local lines when I am in London. The 2009 stock, although clean, bright and fast, doesn't have as much character as the old stock.

Damn :'( :'( I was hoping they would last to the end of August. Looks like my final 1967 stock ride was in February between Walthamstow and Euston. I'll now have to turn my attention to the A and C stocks before they go.

Having done some research, isn't that the date the old signalling is shut down, rendering the remaining 1967 stock inoperable?

According to District Dave's boards, people are only seeing 4 sets in service at a time now even in the peaks. 38 of the new sets are now present, which means there is only a requirement for 5 67s to maintain full strength.

S stock seems to be having a far slower introduction, so no immediate rush for the A, C and Ds...

As far as I know, all the A stock will go first, followed by the C and then, finally the D so it will be several years before the whole fleet of sub-surface stock has been replaced.

Cars 4050 and 3050 were seen on the back of low loaders on the M25 on Tuesday morning, presumably heading to the scrapman.

Honestly. how hard would it have been to put in a single connection from Northumberland Park to the adjacent main line and bring the 09s in and take the 67s away the easy way? Less than about 700 separate low-loader movements? The rail industry seems determined to hand work to its main competitor at times...

Where are they being taken to?

Some years ago, when the Central Line stock was replaced, the old stock was hauled by BR from West Ruislip to Mayer Parry at Snailwell.

So it can be done.

I'm not sure the 09s can go that way; the Victoria line tunnels are larger than the rest of the tubes and the trains use all that available space.

I read somewhere that the 09 stock can only be removed by road, as the increased loading gauge means it cannot go onto other lines.

The last 1967 Tube Stock ran on Thursday, 30th June, 2011.
The last working was the 1829 from Seven Sisters to Brixton; scheduled to arrive back at Seven Sisters at 1932.
In practice, this service ended up running 20 minutes late, due to a failed 2009 Tube Stock train at Pimlico on the southbound journey.
Units used were 3159+3059 and 3179+3079. "V" headboards were carried at each end of the train.
There was a significant number of enthusiasts and LUL staff on the final 1967 Tube Stock train.

RIP 1967 Stock.  :'( :'( I always prefered this to the newer 2009 stock. Especially the noise the motors made when starting to accelerate.

Looks like I'll have to start getting some more A Stock journeys. Does anyone know how long they have in service.

Isn't there not a car of 1967 Stock 'preserved' at this Walthamstow Pump House Museum, a museum I have never been to. I know there's another car preserved at Acton.

Looks like there is, see below.  Unsure of the age of the report but it sounds like it is not the first car they have had.

http://www.walthamstowpumphousemuseum.org.uk/news.html

TFL donate a Victoria Line tube car to the museum
Over the next few months the 1967 Victoria Line tube stock will be replaced by a new fleet of modern tube cars.
One of the old cars has been gifted to the museum for display by TFL. This will replace car 3016 which is currently at the Pump House.
Part of this original car will be saved and will be fitted out as it would have been when it was new in 1967.

Our thanks go out to TFL and to Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy who arranged this donation.

Possibly some time - only seven Ss have made it in to service, and deliveries seem to have ground to a halt.
