Olympian/Roadrunnder never operated the 5 and the 354. They were operated by Centrebus from their Stevenage depot.

Note that this means (along with the 290) no buses between Ashwell&Morden and Royston along the A505. One bus will be provided on Wednesdays, supported by Cambs CC on the 127 - although the operator has deregistered this, CCC are undertstood to be intent on replacing the contact.

I'm pleased Uno have won the 5/354 routes. Will seem strange seeing them in the Harlow area, even if only briefly on a Saturday. This also means Centrebus will then be completely out of the Harlow area.

Also interesting that Uno will be operating the Sunday 242 again. The last time they had it, I think it was on a temporary contract (?).

What I thought was interesting were the operators who were not on the list of bidders at all...

Same with me there was a few names missing that I thought would have been bidding for some of the routes!

Suzy, do you know if only certain sized buses can work the Ware local routes? If so it will be interesting too see which vehicles SM will use as I think the only small vehicles they have now are Mercedes Varios.

Also, the contract for peak hour route 323, operated by SM, won't be renewed due to low passenger numbers.

So, where does that leave Charter Travel? Do they have any other routes and what contracts do they have?

I think I had the same theory!

Personally I was wondering if TownLynx/SMCoaches/Roadrunner/Olympus/Olympian/TWH had been blackballed for their antics on the 351 with running the bus over-capacity and jumping red lights, which then made the press nationally.

I do not use the term "blackballed" with any other meaning and do not mean to be offensive. If you've got a phrase for "barred from bidding without a legal restriction, restraining order etc." then let me have it  :D

Regular size Solo can fit round Alex.

Regular size Solo can fit round Alex.
But not recommended regularly, the normal allocation from Centrebus was a short Solo.

OK - thanks! When I meant "normal Solo" it was to say there were no restrictions needing a slimline - or is that wrong?

Anyway.... Services 90/91 which will then be Letchworth - A&MStn will now continue to Royston twice a day in service. I don't have any further details other than this : >

I'm not 100% certain but I suspect that it would get very tight in places, given Centrebus specially purchased a short, narrow Solo for the route I suspect that it is not a recommended allocation on a regular basis.

Service 90/91 - version 2 from 2nd April 2013 - is now registered. Two buses off-peak per day extended to/from Royston. There are also yet more changes throughout the day (Clothall Common short journeys are gone during the week, and it's back to 5 per day Mon-Fri). However, at the same time... the Wednesday bus on Service 127 is operating at 1353 from Ashwell... with the changed 90 now arriving at 1408. Connection is therefore minus 15 minutes, or stay on the bus to Royston, arriving at 1425, 127 departing at 1510.

Services 127 and 128 - Cozy Travel timetable as per the current plan, which was not to change the times at all. Even if changes to the 90/91 make it seem even more daft....  :P

Timetables for 90/91 127 128 all attached.

Suzy:  The reinstatement of the two 90/91 journeys to and from Royston is (a) as a result of protests, and (b) at the expense of the intended extra short journeys to Clothall Common.  The timings at Royston Bus Stn at 0923 arrival and 1430 departure are designed to make connections with Stagecoach 26.  Their departure is at 0940 (arr Cambridge 1020), with the 1340 ex Cambridge Drummer St getting to Royston at 1420.  By secondary connections within Cambridge, it also allows a visit to Addenbrooke's.  Let's hope their appointments are not delayed!!

Dave,

Yes - but the return from Letchworth is currently 1310 (Service 90) which meets the 127 at Ashwell on Wednesdays, 90 due in  1348, 127 due out 1353.
Now, if the 90 is due in at 1408... it means the return to The Mordens needs to be what it is the rest of the week i.e. down to Ashwell and  back.

Don't you get the impression that either (1) the original timetable might not have been a bad idea, after spotting the knee-jerk reactions... (2) perhaps the service could have been re-tendered to run on a new connecting timetable with the 127... but that would be too easy to use? After all I was told by HCC back in the day they had no interest in through fares - or even Explorer acceptance - as they decided that the operator wasn't a member of the Intalink Partnership, but they had no desire to resolve that.

Have to say - from the experience in 2008, I do believe Cambs CC handled it wrong.
From the experience in 2013, I do believe Herts CC have handled it wrong.
