Stagecoach order 2017/18
« on: March 29, 2017, 10:43:14 pm »
Just seen this info posted by Pete Tierney on dartslf.com

If this is the true order. Does anyone know what the MMC's for Cambridge are to be used on?
Bedford and Peterborough are still running 10 to 16 year old MAN's darts and tridents so i'm surprised that there's no service buses for either depot.

The Elite's on the X5 have been a problem since day one so i'm not surprised to see some of them getting replaced

Probably replacing the remaining 55 and 56 plate ALX400s which in turn will go to Norfolk Green to replace the 52 plate tridents

Take Manchester for example the Envioro 400MMCs are slowly replacing the current fleet of Enviro 400s over a 3 year period. Due to the high demand for new buses from Stagecoach from all operating areas it is unlikely that a large fleet of around 50 vehicles (Cambridge Enviro 400 fleet) will be replaced within a year.

9 coaches for Bedford seems like the right number to replace the remaining 536xx Volvos, and add enough extra cover for the 543xx ones to put an end to E400s escaping out onto the X5...

That would make sense Julia. There's 6 of the 536** batch left, which are usually either on the 99 (PVR=4), or covering on the X5. The extra 3 coaches, if you're right, would certainly help in avoiding E400s on the X5 and 16 year old MANs on the 99.

I WOULDN'T believe any of this "List" as it has NOT been Officially Confirmed by the Stagecoach Board. It's just somebody's fictitious "guesswork" !! I was reliably informed that one or two details are still being discussed with Supply Manufacturers, before the Board agree the Orders.

My source would not divulge any other information other than:-
The ONLY buses Confirmed were Enviro 400MMCs 10811-43 for Liverpool & 10844-65 for Manchester, as both batches were required Urgently

The one bit that *has* been confirmed are the seven B5TL/Wright Gemini part-open tops for Kendal, as reported by Route One (it has been announced to staff at Kendal): http://www.route-one.net/articles/Vehicles/Stagecoach_orders_Wrightbus__all_new_open_toppers_for_Lakes

Due to the high demand for new buses from Stagecoach from all operating areas it is unlikely that a large fleet of around 50 vehicles (Cambridge Enviro 400 fleet) will be replaced within a year.
However, Manchester are slightly different, in that they no longer have anything older, decker-wise now, than an Enviro 400. They have already shipped out all their 17xxx & 18xxx Tridents, whereas some other fleets haven't. North East is the same, with their oldest decker being an Enviro 400.

The likes of East (us), Midlands etc will still need to withdraw late Tridents with 17xxx & 18xxx fleetnumbers before they are allowed to start on Enviro 400s, in earnest. Thats unless they were of a "specific" batch such as the "old" Park & Rides, which were due for replacement (contract conditions) & required for cascade to Lincoln & Dunfermline, which has occurred !

Yes, correct !Sorry,  I'd overlooked that. They have only recently been authorised with the impending Summer Lakeside Tourist Season almost upon us, and because of their urgent requirement !.

What kind of thing would they be discussing with the supplier then, would have thought it was clear cut seeing Sir Brian Souter is the chairman of Stagecoach and co owner of Alexander Dennis

Clear cut ?? Absolutely NOT ! I can say, without contradiction, that Sir Brian does NOT mix his personal investment businesses with that of Stagecoach. Thats partly why he is no longer CEO of Stagecoach & Martin Griffiths is !

The discussions relate to chassis manufacturers & some required specifications to finalise contracts. Its nothing to do with ADL or bodywork.

If this is true, it would imply that the complete E400s have not been a success on inter urban routes and that the Scania chassis is needed.

If this is true, it would imply that the complete E400s have not been a success on inter urban routes and that the Scania chassis is needed.
Alternatively, it might imply that certain subsidiaries like to standardise on Scania Deckers and following the 'disagreement' with Scania last year over a technical spec, have resolved their differences.
If this order is correct, it would also suggest some of the ADL E400 on order might be for Interurban routes.

Still to be confirmed I know but currently no Optare Solos on the list?

Spoke to a Bedford driver today (one of the regulars on the 99 - who had MAN 22318 today) and he said that the 9 new coaches for Bedford are for the 99, which is going to have its frequency doubled to half hourly all day.

New coaches are expected soon, no date yet for the frequency increased.

Is this a strange quirk resulting from the changes in the regulations and the particular circumstances Stagecoach have found themselves in that will probably never happen again?

I was sent this list from an informed friend, no guesswork on my part. When I posted it on Dart SLF I did state that it came from a friend & I couldn't verify the contents.

It has since been updated following the official announcement, the majority of it appears to be correct, however the Nuneaton order has been altered to 25 longer E200's in the 26xxx series.

UK buses/stagecoach website has the latest known position.

Cheers Pete
