My visit to Reading
« on: April 17, 2017, 09:49:11 am »
Quite recently I fulfilled a desire to visit Reading and have a look at the buses which I had read about. It was most enjoyable. The multi-coloured fleet of branded buses was a refreshing change to cities served only by corporate liveried buses.

I arrived just after 1000 on April 5th and left about 1200 the next day.

I have now posted an album of 118 photos of buses operated by Reading Buses. The album thumbnails resemble a Dulux shade card!

In the next few days I will post about 30 odd more of some other operators running into the town (Thames Travel 8, Arriva (2), Stagecoach (1), Mortons Tadbus (2), Stewarts (3) and Courtney (2)) plus coaches of First’s Railair 8, Courtney’s Luton Airport service (4) and Horseman (4).

Please take a look here:

….. and look out for the service 21 bus that has a jukebox!

Like David, I have enjoyed visting Reading (and will again quite soon) for the Buses. However, the area beside the Rail Station, where the Bus Station was, has been redeveloped as part of the Rail Station Forecourt Revamp. I think most buses now use the adjoining streets & still pass the front of the Rail Station, so no big trek across Town involved !!. Also, and quite handy, is that the Reading Buses Depot is only a 5/10 minute walk away & can afford the added bonus of seeing/photographing of buses not out on service. There are one or two vantages points to view the buses without going into the actual depot !

All in all, Reading provides a steady flow of buses to be seen or photographed, giving the enthusiast a decent enjoyable day !
