Service Changes in August/Closure of Saxby depot
« on: July 05, 2017, 07:45:33 pm »
There are some changes being made to Centrebus services in Peterborough, Rutland and Leicestershire in August. This includes the closure of Saxby depot and also a new site at Coston, about 2.5 miles north West of Saxby. There has been a number of vandalism issues at Saxby recently.

Service 19: Nottingham – Melton Mowbray – Oakham – Stamford - Peterborough

The Nottingham to Melton Mowbray service will be reduced to 2-hourly with most journeys operating through from Melton to Grantham as service 8 offering new journey opportunities along these routes.

Between Melton Mowbray and Oakham the 19 will be replaced by the extension of service RF1 providing through links from Corby and Uppingham to Melton Mowbray. There will be changes to the times of journeys from that currently provided but will offer a similar level of service to current provision.

Between Stamford and Peterborough the service will revert to its previous service number (9) and continue to operate hourly between Stamford Bus Station and Peterborough, with a slightly revised timetable but offering a similar level of service to that currently provided.

The section of route from Oakham to Stamford is withdrawn.

Separately from this Broadmarsh Bus Station in Nottingham will be closing on 9th July 2017 for 2 years for redevelopment.  During this period the 19 will operate from Collin Street (in front of the shopping centre).

I was a little surprised to read this but I note that the Centrebus note speaks of a timetable for a Oakham, Stamford service.  Have there been reliability problems with the 19, it being split into sections?

Perhaps if Alan Duncan's Government had done anything about the concessionary fares debacle - or about congestion, or about rural bus services at all - this might not be happening.

Is Saxby still operational?  Did Coston ever open?  VOSA searches show a Coston depot with 10 vehicles on the Centrebus North licence and Saxby depot remaining active on the Centrebus East licence.

The final move of the Melton operating site from Saxby to Coston is due to happen shortly (currently planned for the 16th October), it was always planned to be a phased process over a number of months.

The 'missing link; on service 9 never happened as the 9 operates between Peterborough and Oakham. I was rather surprised that they intended to leave this section uncovered. I suspect there was pressure (or funding) from Rutland C.C.
