Well, I suppose it makes a change for them ??? After all , Milton Keynes, Luton & Kettering must be getting rather boring now ??

I've heard today that Enviro 300's 27520-23 (GX06DZB/C/D/E) are only on loan to Stagecoach East and not permanent transfers.
The 53 reg Darts and MAN 22333 (AE51RZM) are being kept in service to allow the new arrivals to be repainted out of Coast Hopper livery into Stagecoach livery. There are 14 vehicles to be painted so it will take time. Hopefully after that The ex Peterborough Enviro 400's can finally be repainted and lose their 'Citi' branding

At least 3 of your 'Bedford Bus' branded vehicles are currently here in Peterborough.

Don't know if its a permanent move or just temporary loan.

34771 and 34773 are here as well as 35104 being back here.

Plenty of Grasshopper and Froghopper buses around Bedford bus station yesterday evening whilst doing my food shop. 37431/37438 were on the 6, 37437 was on a 73, 37432 on a 1, 48031 did a 4, 48032 did a 3 than a 7 whilst 27643 and 48034 were parked up. I had 27520 into town on the 9 and went home on 27523 whilst 27522 was also on the 9 with 36042 so no double decks at all on the route. The other Sussex deserter 27521 was on the 5/6 circuit. 19706 did a 73 whilst 19703 arrived on an 81. 19892 appeared on an X5 which I suspect was the 1710 from Cambridge. Likewise 19890 and 53615 both arrived in tandem with X5 Bedford on the blind presumably one was the 1725 from Cambridge but no idea what the duplicate was if that was the case. Even when route 9 goes down to a 20 minute evening frequency 27523 still managed to depart 17 minutes late with the 1845 9. Hardly worth bothering to run it with 27522 right behind on the 1905 9. The custom at that time of day doesn't warrant two buses in a couple of minutes.

It crossed my mind this morning should I go to Cromer or Eastbourne depending on what I was offered but it wasn't to be as all the Frog/Grasshoppers seemed to have hopped away. Last night they were multiplying but this morning not a sausage. The old order 18419 appeared on my 9 into town and 34425 took me to work on the 0911 6. 34421 was on a 73, 19890 did the 0905 72, 19706 was on the 0915 81 whilst 18423, 19889 and, back to haunt me, 36045 were on the 5/6 routes. I bet I will get that rubbish when I go home now it is infesting the 6 route again.

I haven't seen 17484 on the 6 this week so assume it is no longer wanted. For that matter I have not seen 18336 at all so clearly not a replacement for the other trident on the 5 and 6.

On this date in 2013 the 0915 81 was 16226 with 16593 performing on the 0936 1.

Yesterday after work the screen at my stop boldly declared it would be 13 minutes for the next 6 so I headed off to cover the 1722 51 and got lucky as I made the minus 20 onto the 50 into town which produced 18150 so nailed it. I was to get another winner 27521 home on the 1729 9 so they can now return the four Sussex vehicles to where they came from as they are dealt with.

This morning route 9 was messed up again but at least I got to observe 18336 on the route with 19701. In theory my requirement should be on the 1741 9 home but I won't take that for granted. I had to make do with 22316 into town but I did get a winner on the 6 to work as 27646 produced.

Other stuff seen were 18419 on a 73 before doing the 0915 51, 18057 was the 0915 73, 27520 and 36045 still trying to snare me on the 6 whilst 48036 was on a 7.

I was right in thinking that winner 18336 would be on the 1741 9 home yesterday but don't be fooled in thinking I had it even though it was right in front of me. The driver returned from the office a couple of minutes before departure informing us he was to swap vehicles which on the surface of it is a fairly straightforward thing to do but not when it is in Bedford. After parking up 18336, said driver got into 34832 but soon got out again and went back into 18336. He then vacated the trident and entered 48031 but after a few minutes of nothingness he vacated that too and went back into 18336. 11 minutes later we were all still stood there watching this pantomime unfold. Is this what a 50p increase in fares is for to watch indecision in choosing a bus?

The crowning glory of this act arrived at 1750 when 19890 filled the space our hapless driver failed to fill forming the 1753 9 so he couldn't pick us up so off he drove empty to pick up at the next stop so ensuring I missed my winner 18336. So after all that swapping the bus nonsense he left 9 minutes late on the 1741 with the same bus he tried to swap making it late for no apparent reason and blowing me up too so I didn't get the vehicle home I was aiming for. I feel like they are slowly driving me mad...

Other odds and ends noted during my 15 minutes of going nowhere were 27644 on an 81, 19706 and 19891 on 41's, 18057 on a 51 along with 37437 on the 1745 51 to Rushden, 27523 on a 2 and 34421 on a 73.

This morning I had my first froghopper 48024 on the 9 into town so I hope these things are not going to keep appearing like the Solo's on this route. 48033 was on a 10 where it should be, 18057 was the 0915 73 and 19704 the 0926 X5 to Cambridge but I had to make do with 27522 on the 0911 6.

On this date in 2010 my buses home were 16676 on the 6 and 16672 on the 9 and the following day it was 14042 on the 6 and 18107 on the 9. Who knows what piffle awaits today assuming someone makes up their mind which vehicles to use... :-\

I've been told by my friend at Stagecoach in Bedford that Northampton depot are to take over the 99 within the next few months with the route itself extending to Northampton from Milton Keynes.
This will keep Bedford's 63 reg Enviro 200's on the 2 where they belong.

I doubt it as that is run by Kettering depot with Scania Enviro 400's. All of Bedford's Enviros are the ADL version and the fact that the route transferred back to Kettering depot when 'the planet' routes ended and changed back to traditional service numbers

The good news is 18336 is back on route 9 for me today but the bad news is I probably won't have it as it should do the 1717 which is too early for me. 18057 and 22316 were also on the route both passing me one behind the other heading for Shortstown as the traffic was chronic this morning.

Other heaps noticed this morning were 53615 arriving on an 81, 34422 on a 2, 19892 on a 72, 37438 on a 42, 19888 on the 0915 73 and 19889 on the 0915 81. Best of a bad bunch was 18190 on the 0932 50. On my return from an appointment the bus station was bereft of any buses with all 12 bays empty where there should have been several on the verge of departing. There was no 1011 6, nor was there a 1023 6 and come to mention it no 1035 6 produced either. This meant I had to do 15455 on the 1032 50 and walk to work and still no 1035 went by so it all bodes well for going home on the 6 later.

On this day in 2010 my bus to work was blue budgie 16227 and on the same date in 2012, 16232 arrived on a 53 with 14000 on the 1740 5A, 16013 was on the 1805 72 and 16226 on the 1815 51.

I did manage to get 18336 home on the 9 Tuesday as it did the 1741 service so the diagrams must have changed probably owing to the buses being out of sync in the morning. 27645 was also on the 9 whilst 36045 and 48032 were on the 1.

I walked to work this morning and viewed alien 18159 going up Rope Walk and 5 minutes later appearing in Cardington Road so presumably on some sort of empty test run. Another alien of sorts was the appearance of 18403 on the 0932 50 which had to be scratched in along with 27644 on the 6. Both 27646 and froghopper 48035 were on 9's so another winner to be had there. 19891 and 19705 did 2's, 19893 a 6 and 36935 a 72. The 0926 X5 to Cambridge dropped 19702.

No winners for me heading home yesterday as 19706 on the 6 and 19701 on the 9 produced. Unless my sight is going I am sure I passed 833 on a 72 so what happened to the 34 digits? 18336 arrived on an 81 before doing a 42 as pictured above.

I see the local rag had a letter complaining about the route 9 service but if the scribe only had to wait 25 minutes for a bus he has done rather well compared to the 30-45 minutes I have endured. This morning 19893 took me into town running about 10 minutes late passing 27647.

I mentioned last week that in 2010 I had 18107 home on the 9 but this morning it took me to work on the 0932 Kettering. Just to irritate me winner 19699 was poised to do the late 0926 X5 to Cambridge as it continues to elude me.
 ::)

One advantage of doing the Kettering buses this week on the 50 has been they are still charging the pre-increase fares for our tickets so keep it quiet... :-X

Bedford's recently-acquired E300s and ex-Norfolk Green E200MMCs are appearing quite frequently on the Bedford-Northampton 41 service now. The MMCs are real head-turners, admittedly partly because of the distinctive Coasthopper livery, which I for one will be sorry to lose.

After work last Friday I did 34421 on the 51 and winner 27647 on the 9 home after viewing 18403 on the 1712 50 and 27643 on the 1730 81.

I did 19698 on the 9 into town on Saturday but before I went to Leicester I noted the following whilst scoffing breakfast:

1- 19702 / 19703 / 19704
2 - 48035
3 - 48034 / 48036
4 - 48024
5/6 - 18419 / 19706 / 27647
9 - 19698 / 19892 / 19893
42 - 18057
71 - 19701 / 27643 / 34833
73 - 36042
81 - 19699 / 19888

I wasn't seeing things last week as 34833 does only have the 833 digits on the front so its a poisoned dart. On my return from Leicester, after doing mileage moves on ex Stagecoach 14252, 14253 and 16647, I arrived back in Bedford to finally nail winner 19699 on the 1830 81 to get home.

This morning 18423 was on time on my 9 for 27520 to work on the 6. Not much else to report - 48031 did a 2, 19701 was the 0905 72, 19888 did the 0915 81 and 19705 on a 53. I have no idea what else is on the 9's to get home but this day in 2011 produced 16214 on the S1 so whatever it is tonight it will be dull.

Darts 34424-28 (KV53EZA/B/C/D/E/)

Optare Solo 47351/2/4 (AE06TWV/P/N) 47435 (YN53SVV)

Also in service is training Dart 34421 (KV53EYX)

I haven't seen an MAN for a few days so I presume 22316/33 (AE51RYR/RZM) have been stood down

Stored at Biggleswade are Council owned Solos 47437-442 (YJ56AOM/O/P/R/S)
The engineless 47436 (YJ56AOL) is dumped in the yard at Bedford depot

I had the misfortune to be in Peterborough on Sunday to witness the 1745 and 1845 ridiculous new rail services to Horsham be cancelled as insufficient drivers available to work them. The mind boggles that this joke of a rail company knew for months about their new timetable but still failed to get all the drivers trained up for its commencement. Therefore there were no trains to St Neots for 3 hours so I had to endure a rancid coach that took 55 minutes but at least it made the 1943 X5 home with 54317. Just to annoy me further 19888 went the other way on the 1856 X5 from Bedford to Cambridge. I didn't reach Bedford bus station as Bedford's fire service had completely taken over St Peter's St so the driver dropped me off in St Cuthberts St, after going down towards Newnham St, and turning round so a bit of a new route for the X5. Earlier in the day a colleague lamented the poor service he suffered in Bedford on a recent Saturday visit with missing services and long festers. Well I have warned people if they look on here as to what to expect... :-[

I scored my first froghopper for over a week 48036 on the 9 yesterday whilst 48032 was on a 2. On the way home grasshopper 37437 was on a 1 whilst an unwelcome sight as far as I was concerned was 53702 which must have got lost as it appeared in the bus station with W7 Wellingborough on the blind. I assume this is the insulting bus service that East Midlands trains has foisted on us with the timetable change. So now the fast trains don't stop at Bedford in the peak times, you can still get them if you are prepared to do this daft bus to Wellingborough, to head north or laughably south on a rancid Meridian that connects with the bus.

This morning 37437 was on a Northampton 41, 18419 did the 0915 73, 19706 the 0915 81 and 18108 on the 0932 50 whilst the rotten 36045 is lying in wait for me allocated to the 9's today so hopefully I will avoid it and get 19893 instead.

I see on 22 May 2010 I did the following moves on a Saturday: 16681 to Oakley and back on a 51, 16672 out and back on a 5, 16680 to Oakley and back on a 51, 16672 out and back on a 6 and went home on 18107 on a 9.

On this day in 2014 I went to Wootton on the 1715 53 on 16226 and was the sole passenger on the return to Bedford with nobody getting on or off. The driver forgot I was upstairs and parked up where the spare buses are left without going into the bay.  :o

Yesterday Herberts trident T665 KPU cheekily parked up in the bus station in one of the spare bays after doing a school run and later in the day EMT 53708 also did the same. Nice to see 14000 is to go to Scotland after all. I first heard this rumour 5 years ago and had wondered if it had all fallen apart when it got dumped in Ely instead of heading north direct from Bedford as had been mooted.

Route 9 yesterday morning played host to 27520 and 27522 and also 47354 was let loose on us. I had thought I had seen the last of those crates on my route but no and as further punishment it is still out on the 9 today. I had a choice to work of 18336 or 36045 on the 6 so there could only be one winner and it wasn't a pink blob. 18336 also took me back to town from work where I was spoilt for choice as three 9's all arrived at the same time so I could take my pick of 27644, 27645 or froghopper 48033. I chose the latter as a winner. A few minutes later 47354 appeared so any punters in Shortstown were withered as all four diagrams were in town at the same time! I don't know what happened to 27520 and 27522 that were on the 9's earlier in the day.

This morning I had 27523 on the 9 for 27522 on the 6. Winner 48023 was on the 9 with 47354 so I may get that newie later. Grasshopper 37432 was the 0905 72, 19888 did the 0915 81, 18057 the 0915 73 and 19087 the 0932 50. Yes tedious I know... :P

As far as i know its not really EMT'S choice to not stop at Bedford during the peaks, seems everyone has to get out the way for the 'Thameslink core' services, when they are running that is, most of the trains from Cambridge to Brighton and Peterborough to Horsham are booked to be the same driver all the way but not enough drivers have been route learned so its causing chaos, but thats for another post...

The local rags seem to suggest that EMT are to blame and I can't see how EMT can get out of the way for Thameslink as their trains still have to pass Bedford to reach London so they might as well stop in the station as opposed to stopping north of the station at a red signal. Even on a Bank Holiday Monday they don't stop when there are no penguins or, commuters if you prefer, to infiltrate their precious trains. I also gather only one service ran from Horsham to Peterborough yesterday. Perhaps they should have held a civic reception for this momentous occasion like they did when the first train departed Horsham on the opening of the station in 1848.

Anyway, I am digressing. Last Friday I had a double score pair to get home with tango Corby Star 15401 on the 50 and froghopper 48023 on the 9. Wasn't I the lucky one? Grasshoppers 37437 and 37433 were on the 73 and 81 respectively. Rancidity 53704 was parked up in the bus station. Not that was the end of the unwelcome visitors as Arriva scarred me on Sunday morning with 3117 and 3131 at the railway station and then Centrebus bringing along 517 and 519 on Monday morning as if I wanted to look at them!

This morning 27647, 19892 and 18336 were on the 9 so the trident should be on the 1741 later. 34425 was out on the 2 and 34833 minus the first two digits did the 0915 81. The 0911 6 to work was 27644 with Billy Bin posters displayed in nanny state mode warning Norfolk folk if they use the wrong bins for rubbish they will be punished with having their bins confiscated and replaced by transparent sacks. Such draconian methods have not reached these parts yet but no doubt someone in Beds CC will make a note of this if riding this vehicle and inflict similar methodology on us at some point.

On 28 May 2010 I did 20853 on the P1 to Northampton and returned to Bedford on 20915 before heading to Victoria to do some RM's on Chelsea flower show workings. On the same date in 2014 I did green budgie 16225 on the one way 1835 40 to Bromham whilst blue budgie 16227 did the 1820 73 to Biggleswade also one way if memory serves me correctly.

On this precise day in 2014 I viewed green budgie 16224 on the 0930 52 and hoped it would stay out all day. It did, so I had it on the 1730 52 to Milton Keynes Hospital and back on the 1851 to Bedford. I was withered on the outward as 16225 was on the 1751 from the Hospital so must have done the 1630 so you could have done one out for the other back!

Happy days compared to now... 8)

Dart 35105 (AE06WXP) which I had as transferred to Peterborough is parked in the yard at Bedford next to Enviro 200 36041 (AE08NVR) which had its bonnet open.

Does anyone know when the "Coast Hopper" Solo Sr's and Enviro 200MMC's will get painted into Stagecoach livery?
