Central Line rail replacement (25+26/06/2011)
« on: June 25, 2011, 04:57:24 PM »
Central Line rail replacement: Epping - Woodford. Closed due to engineering works, which hasn't occured on this section of the line for years, so was interesting to see an interesting mix of buses.

Was mostly operated by First London, with two or three vehicles from Arriva London.
For some reason, the service is going through Loughton High Road, which is always very congested especially on Saturdays. They could easily go up Alderton Hill and Borders Lane between Loughton and Debden, instead of doing a lengthy double-run to Debden. A lot of time would be saved from doing a shorter route, along a less congested road, but I suppose they must have a reason not to - Borders Lane is used by double deckers (including the 20 on dead runs), but it does get narrow in places, and there are low trees. Anyway, good to see London double deckers reaching out to Epping (although Blue Triangle already do on commercial route 575). Was good to see First in the area as well. The Tridents (especially the Enviro400s) got up the hills around Loughton very well (didn't struggle at all!) - i'm used to DB250s on the 20 struggling up all the hills.

Bus B (Epping - Theydon Bois)

This route was run by single-deckers, with only one bus (presumably it ran every 30 minutes). Also saw a Nimbus on the route earlier, but was unable to identify it. I had a ride on the Marshall Capital though, as seen below.
