Electric buses for Cambridge
« on: March 08, 2018, 07:11:30 PM »
The Cambridge Independent last week ran an article about electric taxis and buses.  Apparently the Greater Cambridge Partnership are promoting the use of electric taxi. and proposing to bring in some electric buses although funding for this is not discussed.

The suggestion is that Stagecoach will operate 3 double deckers on the Citi 6 and Whippet will operate one single decker on the Busway C.

I can't understand the choice of those routes.  Particularly for the C and to a lesser extent the 5, the route is fast which will use a lot of battery power.  Most of the applications to date have been very urban.  Diesel engines are at their most efficient and least polluting when running at constant speed and anyway most of the route is well away from people - particularly people sharing the same street so very little reduction in pollution in Cambridge city where the concentration of pollutants is high and it matters most.

What do you think about the proposal?

One of the P&R's strikes me as the obvious right choice - lots of time in the city centre, congested roads, and a route to showcase electric buses to people who aren't regular bus users. If three are coming, that's just right for Madingley.

THE citi6 to Oakington doesn't have any high speed running most is 40 from Girton to Oakington (less than a mile ). plus its the shortest service and has a pvr of 2/3 best route for them to go on really
Kind regards

I would have thought the P&R too; isn't it the route where the bus spends the most times sitting in a place where it could be topped up?
