Stagecoach in Northants 2018 happenings.
« on: June 18, 2018, 05:38:43 PM »
Since Corby has become an outstation of Kettering I have see the Corby Star Scania decker a on route 50 at leat 2 morning in the past week. I wouldn't be surprised to see these repainted into standard stagecoach colours and allocated to Kettering for the 49/50 routes and Tridents send to Corby for the town route as Scanias seem to suit longer distance routes better.

The East Lancs Tridents are non standard for Stagecoach, there was two at Kings Lynn from the Norfolk Green days, both were repainted into corporate colours but since the closure of the depot they have since withdrawn both and given to charity as opposed to keeping them for the long distance 505 to Spalding work

The Scania's are owned by Northamptonshire County Council and are supposed to be for route 3 in Corby. They are now the only vehicles in Corby Star livery.
They are also some of the oldest vehicles within Stagecoach Midlands being 14 years old. They're not likely to get painted into Stagecoach livery due being council owned and also being at the age where they're likely to be replaced soon. Most probably with cascaded Tridents or Enviro 400's as Kettering and Corby never seem to get many new vehicles apart from Scania's for he X4 which were Kettering's last new Vehicles back in 2011

Just seen 18150 on service in Peterborough. Could only see side view, but assume it
was on an X4 by its location and passengers.

13 new Dennis E400 Gold buses are due at Kettering for X4 later this year, fleet numbers should be 11126-11138

  13 buses displaced should be the 5 Corby star Scania's +the 8 ALX400 Tridents

The new ADL Enviro 400MMCs are due for delivery from mid-September but sorry to disappoint to your prediction for the existing Scania/Enviro 400 X4 fleet - they will be transferred elsewhere within Stagecoach UK Bus.

There are rumours of cascaded Enviro 400's to replace Northampton and Kettering's 04 and 54 plate Tridents although I can't see where these would come from as the usual source of these seems to be Manchester and nothing new is due there this financial year

I think you'll find the East Lans Scania's, not East Lancs Tridents, are owned by Stagecoach, they were sold on from the council years ago

34625 and 34626 are back in the reserve fleet for now. They are emergency cover for Kettering and Corby and in our engineering reserve fleet during vehicle shortages

47404 and 47129 have left Corby and have gone to Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancs

Stagecoach Midlands have reinstated 54 plate Darts 34625 and 34626 into the reserve fleet. This reinstatement is to help provide emergency cover for vehicles which are currently VOR. 34625 is working in Corby and 34626 is working out of Kettering.

Steven Knight has incorrectly reported that fire damaged 19088 is at Kettering. It isn’t, i believe it’s at Northampton.

Three E400mmc golds are at Kettering now. SK68 LUW/Y/Z are here

Are Northampton short of Gold Scanias for the X46 X47? I have seen a lot on non gold buses on it recently. The was an Enviro 200 a week or so back, Trident 18409 yesterday and Enviro 400 19012 tonight, I know they usually have the odd MX08 scanias on there.

Graham, Northampton are one Gold Scania short as 15942 is delicenced, some rumours are that it is permanently withdrawn following a catastrophic engine and gearbox failure in early August. 15942 is currently in a corner of the yard at Northampton, minus its front lower dash panel, engine and gearbox. This along with the fire damage to 19088, is the reason for the appearance of the two Darts 34625/6 at Northampton.

Thanks, I hadn't realised that. Surely they would repair it being only 5 years old unless the chassis or body was badly damaged.
Today saw Scania 28632 and Enviro 400 19020 on the X47.

Thanks. Sorry, forgot to quote the question!!   I'd be surprised if it weren't repaired at that age.

Kettering have Trident 18108 (KX04RVK) on the 50 in Bedford today instead of the usual Scania. This one also spent a while based at Bedford

The Scania’s are not dedicated to the 50 anymore which is why they are debranded and repainted. They can appear on any route, the same as the Tridents and the E400’s

Two of the new ADL E400MMCs for the X4 were put into service today - 11127 and 11129. 11127 arrived in Peterborough running empty just after 12:00 and then took up its working on the X4 to Corby and Northampton. Stagecoach Gold decals and route branding are still to be applied.

It must be comman sense to use the Scania E400s on the longer distance routes like the 50.

Then again Stagecoach has provided Stagecoach Midlands with new Cummins powered E400s for the X4.

At Euro 6 the Cummins engine used for the E400MMC is pretty much the same size/power as the equivalent Scania unit, in fact I think that it is actually a co-developed unit so is actually identical (I know much of the mid-size engine range that bus engines sit in was co-developed between Cummins & Scania).

Am I right in thinking though the scania needs engine needs more space, and has a longer chassis / body because of this.
Also creating a difference in that the scania can't have a rear window but the adl can.
